Driver licence - Category B

Vehicle or vehicle and trailer combination not exceeding 3.5 tonnes gross weight and not having more than 8 passenger seats. Trailer gross weight must not exceed 750kg.

A combined vehicle and trailer gross weight not exceeding 4.25 tonnes provided the trailer gross weight does not exceed 750kg.

Driver licence - Category B+E

Vehicle as in B but vehicle/trailer combination is heavier.

Driver licence - Category C1

Vehicle exceeding 3.5 tonnes gross weight but not exceeding 7.5 tonnes gross weight. Trailer gross weight must not exceed 750kg.

Driver licence - Category C1+E

Vehicle as in C1 but with a trailer with gross weight more than 750kg but less than the unladen weight of the vehicle. Gross weight of the combination must not exceed 12 tonnes. For drivers who passed the test prior to 1 st January 1997 the combination weight must not exceed 8.25 tonnes.

Driver licence - Category C

Vehicle exceeding 3.5 tonnes gross weight (other than Category D), including trailer with total permissible weight not exceeding 750kg.

Driver licence - Category C+E

Vehicle and trailer combination where the vehicle exceeds 3.5 tonnes gross weight and the trailer exceeds 750kg gross weight.

Driver licence - Category D1

Passenger carrying vehicle not used for hire or reward with more than 8 passenger seats but less than 17 passenger seats, including trailer with total gross weight not exceeding 7,500kg.

Driver licence - Category D1+E

Vehicle as in D1 but with a trailer with gross weight more than 750kg but less than the unladen weight of the vehicle. Gross weight of the combination must not exceed 12 tonnes. The trailer must not carry passengers.

Driver licence - Category D

Passenger carrying vehicle with more than 8 passenger seats, including trailer with gross weight not exceeding 750kg.

Driver licence - Category D+E

As in D but where trailer exceeds 750kg.
