Articulated combinations designed, constructed and used exclusively for exceptional, indivisible loads. These vehicles are exempt from normal Construction & Use Regulations. The three categories are:

Notice to Police
The police in every county through which a Special Types vehicle plans to travel require 2 days advance notice if:
- GCW of the combination exceeds 80,000kg
- The vehicle and/or its load is more than 2.9m wide
- The vehicle and load exceeds 18.3m in length
- The combination of load, vehicle and trailers exceeds 25.9m
- Forward or rearward load/equipment projections exceed 3.05m
